Aging
Well, Living Well
|

|

|
| During
May the Villa celebrated Older Americans
Month with fun and exciting events. On Wednesday, May 5 Villa employees
received a passport to a stress-free life to mark Staff Appreciation
Day. They participated in a health fair and enjoyed a healthy lunch
prepared by the Dining Services Department. Many tested their skills in
a game of Wii bowling. |
The
Gift of Mothers
|

|

|
| On Sunday, May 9
the Villa Community joined the rest of the country in recognizing the
gift of Mothers. Families joined their mothers for a liturgy and May
crowning by one of the mothers on the third floor. Liturgy was followed
by a delicious brunch prepared by dining Services during which each
mother received a wrist corsage, a gift from the Villa. |

Honoring our Nursing Department
|

|

|
| The week
of May 9 was a time to celebrate our
Nursing Department, with a picture display in the lobby.
Nurses enjoyed a special gourmet luncheon on Wednesday, May 12, the
birthday of Florence Nightingale. |
An Evening of Prayer and Fun
|

|

|
| On
Wednesday, May 19, sister residents
gathered in chapel for a special evening prayer focused on 'Aging Well,
Living Well.' Afterward they enjoyed a Happy Hour on the indoor patio
where they were served 'mocktails' and appetizers. Special guest, S.
Marganne Drago, led a chorus of favorite old-time melodies as she moved
through the crowd with her accordion.

| Villa
Barbeque |

|

|
| The month
concluded with the annual resident/staff/family cookout on Wednesday,
May 26. Barbecue smells and disco music surrounded the patio where the
Villa community ate, danced and enjoyed each other's company. The cool,
sunny day offered picnic-perfect weather. |

Recognizing 20 Shining Stars
|
 |

|
| During the
spring the Villa undertook a Star Search, looking for 20
Shining Stars, employees who reflect the values named in the Portrait
of a Villa Employee. Residents, families and leadership were asked to
nominate those who exemplify the values of teamwork, compassion,
hospitality, respect, responsibility and communication. Over 364
nominations for over 149 employees were submitted. Members of the Villa
Advisory Board made the final selection. On June 16 the Shining Stars
and two guests enjoyed a recognition evening which included a prayer
service and elegant dinner served by members of the Villa's leadership
team and last year's Shining Stars. |

Talking
to the Animals
|

|

|
| On
Thursday, May 27 a caravan of van and cars filled with residents, staff
and volunteers traveled across the city to visit the Philadelphia Zoo.
Besides seeing a variety of animals the group enjoyed a picnic lunch
and an opportunity to travel around the scenic park. Smiles and joy
exZOOed from the group upon their return to the Villa. |

A
Time for Retreat
|
 |
 |
| During the week
of June 7 a quiet spirit descended upon the Villa as the sister
residents moved into a time of retreat. Led by Father Charles Krieg,
CM, the retreatants enjoyed some concentrated time for prayer and
reflection. The highlight of the week was the experience of the
Sacrament of Anointing. |

Change
for Global Change
|
 |
 |
The Easter
Season provided a time for the Villa Community to participate in an
effort to effect global change. During this time residents and staff
deposited change into small coffee cans throughout the Villa and a
large jug in the Gift Shop. Contributions were presented at a special
Mass on Thursday, June 3. The $745 collected will be added to funds
collected by the Sisters of Saint Joseph to support water projects
throughout the world.
